Another Cracking Game For Tis

Manager Paul Tisdale was again delighted to see us come out on top in a five goal thriller against Accrington Stanley.

With Exeter making a home grown advantage count on away soil, the gaffer told the Official Site at full time.

‘We were for a while the 2-2 specialists – so 3-2 is a lot better! If we win every game 3-2 and we score goals and the players enjoy the football, and if the supporters enjoy the entertainment, I’ll sacrifice my anxiety for the good of the game.’

Talking more specifically about the game and the goals from Liam Sercombe, Tom Nichols and Matt Grimes, he added.

‘It was another cracking game. The goals were brilliant – there’s no hint that we’re not a creative team, we’ve certainly proved that we are. We’re at attacking team and we can score goals. Every goal had it’s merits. Matt Grimes’ freekick was of a level higher than League 2 and he has done it regularly. Tom Nichols’ strike was just a sweet-as-a-nut powerblaster.’

Tisdale went on to say that Sercombe’s goal saw him do everything he’d been asked, arrive late, arrive at the penalty spot and after a great piece of passing, he slotted it away.

Another positive for the gaffer was how we held on at the end, as he says we’re used to finishing strongly and throwing the proverbial kitchen sink at others teams, but it does confidence no harm at all to have it reversed at points and then for players to block the goal and put bodies on the line to show they can hold out.

With Exeter now sitting on the edge of the play offs, the gaffer said the team would just continue taking it game by game because we aren’t even at the half way stage of the season yet and there’s a long way to go, and he remembers back to September where our game against Oxford was apparently a relegation six pointer, so he knows things change quickly but he’s been delighted with how our form has come together in more recent times because at the present things look ‘rosy’.
