Following the disappointing loss to Southend yesterday, Scot Bennett has pulled few punches and said too many players of late just aren’t performing well enough in games and it’s costing us valuable points.

Speaking to the Official Site following our third league defeat on the bounce the defender said that the whole squad had acknowledged we just haven’t been good enough of late and ultimately they have to get back on things properly so we don’t waste our good start to the season by falling too far behind now.

‘Enough of us know we’re not playing up to the standard that we know we can. A few words have been said in the changing room, it’s private, but we’ve given ourselves the kick up the backside that we need.’

Bennett says now the aim will be to go into training and redouble their efforts so we can head into the next game positive and look for a return to winning ways.

Bennett also adds that having gone through a similar spell last season where the frustration built up, he hopes that addressing things and having a frank discussion this early – which was something they didn’t do last term – will help bring us out of it quicker.

As for the game itself, the defender adds that we started bright enough really but after the first few minutes we either stepped off or they stepped up and we didn’t deal with it and we were struggling, and nobody has any answers as to why that happened but the first goal was very avoidable and everybody was disappointed with it.

Sometimes you can’t answer every question asked, you just make sure it doesn’t get asked again.
