Exeter City have recruited Clinton Morrison on a non contract basis, and welcomed back fellow striker Alex Nicholls for another loan spell.

Former Republic of Ireland international striker Morrison began his career at Crystal Palace before then moving onto, then Premier League side, Birmingham City in 2002. After three season’s in the top flight with them he returned to Selhurst Park for a second spell, and took his goal tally for Palace to 113 putting him joint forth with Mark Bright in their all time scoring charts.

Since leaving Palace for a time he has then gone on to play for Coventry City, Sheffield Wednesday and Colchester United – whilst also spending loan spells with MK Dons and Brentford.

Having been capped by the Republic of Ireland 36 times, he scored nine times and was part of their squad for the 2002 World Cup.

In a playing career that’s seen him take in well over 500 appearances, he has found the net just over 170 times.

The 35 year old has signed non contract terms and has explained that he’s delighted to be able to continue playing for longer having had a short time away from the game.

Manager Paul Tisdale has also secured the return of Nicholls from Northampton Town until the New Year.

The 26 year old was with us earlier in the season, taking in six games. Having been recalled early by Northampton, he has gone on to make nine further appearances for them, so having spent time out injured and with the initial spell designed to get him game time, he comes back to us fitter and sharper than before.

He has one again been handed the No 23 shirt.
