Stuart Fleetwood finally returned to St. James Park after a prolonged transfer saga. He arrives on a season long loan deal from Charlton Athletic.

Supporters feared the transfer would never happen, but the deal was completed on Tuesday`s transfer deadline day. Exeter City manager Paul Tisdale reportedly lodged a bid for the former Forest Green Rovers striker in the summer but Charlton`s unsettled financial position stalled any potential transfer.

Grecian fans will no doubt welcome the return of Fleetwood after his exploits towards the end of last season. Fleetwood scored three goals in seven appearances during his previous spell with the club, including a memorable brace over Dagenham and Redbridge which secured a crucial 2-1 victory for the Grecians. He also scored in the 1-1 draw at Griffin Park against eventual League 2 champions Brentford.

Fleetwood`s arrival along with the return of Adam Stansfield from injury will boost a frontline which has only scored 2 goals in the opening six matches of this season
