Fresh on the heels of manager Paul Tisdale’s comments about the spirit in the camp, midfielder Matt Grimes has said everybody knows the FA Cup is a leveller so Exeter are looking to use that to their advantage when we face Peterborough and get the win we all want and progress through to the next round.

Speaking to the Official Site ahead of the game, the midfielder repeated the gaffer’s words that the camp were confident, optimistic and in good spirits and also agreed that everybody had taken a boost from how we performed in the Portsmouth game, so they are hopeful of causing an upset in the first round now – because in the Cup what appears on paper isn’t what happens on the pitch.

‘I think we’re all relishing in the fact that we’ve drawn Peterborough, who are flying in league 1. I think if we’d got someone in league 2 then it would’ve been anyone’s game – but it’s the FA Cup, so it’s anyone’s game anyway.’

Grimes knows we go into the clash this weekend as the underdogs but again that’s something the dressing room can relish, because the pressure is off, most people will have written us off already, so we can just go out there, enjoy it, give our all and what will be will be.

And hopefully we’ll be one step closer to Wem-ber-ley.

Grimes continues to add that we’ve had a couple of good results lately and some very good performances away from home, so the team go into the match confident and will be giving it a good go.

On a personal level the 18 year old knows he’s having a fantastic season so far especially as only a year ago he was captaining the Under 18 side, so he’s pleased to be making his own impact even though he knows he still has lots to learn in the game, but if he stays involved and the manager keeps turning to him, he can’t be doing much wrong.
