Exeter’s League 2 season continued with a defeat against York at Bootham Crescent on Tuesday.

The signs that Exeter could push towards a play-off place until recently were dashed again with another defeat suffered when the Grecians lost two-nil at improving York.

A double from Bradley Fewster, with a goal in each half, condemned Exeter to defeat with Jayden Stockley denied an equaliser at one-all by the crossbar, with this win moving York out of the bottom two.

These were the other results.

Accrington 1-1 Carlisle
Hartlepool 2-3 Notts County
Oxford Utd 0-1 Northampton
York 2-0 Exeter

Having started with a win in his opening game in charge Hartlepool (three-two) suffered a defeat to Notts County in Craig Hignett’s first as Pools boss at Victoria Park with, a possible, relegation rival York (two-nil) again winning to further enhance the chances of staying up with the Minstermen seeing off Exeter at Bootham Crescent.

A promotion battle, and possible title battle, saw Northampton (one-nil) beat Oxford at the Kassam Stadium to pull further clear at the top to leave the Cobblers in a very strong position for automatic promotion now and title favourites you sense.
