League one round-up: 19th November 2011
The latest weekend of the football league season has been and gone, the npower league one is rounded-up in this article.
Brentford 0-1 Charlton
Just the solitary goal divided Brentford and Charlton, with the visitors the victors.
After a goalless first half Wright-Phillips (64) struck shortly after the hour to give Charlton a 1-0 win.
Colchester 1-5 MK Dons
Having taken the lead few would have expected Colchester to end up being so soundly beaten at home against MK Dons.
When Heath (24) put Colchester ahead around midway through the first half all looked good for The U’s, although goals from MacDonald (38) and Flanagan (45+2) in injury-time meant that it was MK Dons that went into the break 2-1 up.
Three goals in the final 15-minutes, included a couple in the final minutes, from MacDonald (74) again, Gleeson (88) and Ibehre (90+5) deep into injury-time meant that the visitors eventually ran out 5-1 winners!
Huddersfield 2-1 Notts County
By remaining unbeaten, and in fact winning against Notts County, Huddersfield set a new football league record of 43 league games without defeat.
A double for Huddersfield from the lethal Rhodes (46 & 65) came either side of Lee (61) being dismissed for the hosts. A goal at the death from Bishop (90+4) was nothing more than a consolation with the hosts winning 2-1.
Leyton Orient 0-0 Stevenage
Leyton Orient and Stevenage shared the points.
Neither side could force the breakthrough so the game ended 0-0.
Oldham 5-2 Chesterfield
A ‘five star’ showing from Oldham saw them beat Chesterfield 5-2.
Lee (3) and a double from Simpson (12 & 17) had Oldham in complete control with less than 20-minutes of the clock. Westcarr (30) gave Chesterfield hope but this was soon extinguished when Simpson (33) completed a first half hat-trick, in just 21-minutes, to leave Oldham 4-1 up at the break.
Kuqi (58) added a fifth for the hosts before the hour with Clarke (87) scoring for the visitors in the closing minutes.
Preston 0-1 Rochdale
Preston slumped to a home defeat against Rochdale.
After a goalless first half the game looked destined to end goalless but a late goal from Adams (84) gave Rochdale a 1-0 win.
Scunthorpe 0-2 Hartlepool
A goal in each half was enough for Hartlepool to come away from Scunthorpe with all three points.
Monkhouse (21) in the first half and Sweeney (77) in the second meant that the visitors won 2-0.
Sheff United 1-0 Carlisle
One goal was enough to separate Sheff United and Carlisle at Bramall Lane.
Midway through the first half a strike from Evans (21) meant that Sheff United secured a 1-0 win.
Tranmere 1-2 Sheff Wed
A late goal secured Sheff Wednesday a 2-1 victory at Tranmere.
Baxter (38) looked to have given Tranmere a half time lad but an injury-time goal from Lines (45+1) saw Wednesday go in level at the break. With a draw seeming likely Lowe (80) struck with 10-minutes left to give the visitors the win.
Walsall 2-4 Bury
Walsall slumped to a 4-2 home defeat against Bury.
Sweeney (6) gave Bury the lead but a penalty from Macken (28) meant that Walsall were level at the break. Second half goals from Jones (46), Schumacher (63) and John-Lewis (87) had the visitors in control with Bowerman’s strike just an injury-time consolation (90+3).
Wycombe 0-1 Bournemouth
Bournemouth came away from Wycombe with the points after a 1-0 win.
A goal midway through the first half from Pugh (23) is all that separated the sides.
Yeovil 2-2 Exeter
Yeovil let a lead slip to fall behind but still managed to secure a home point against Exeter.
Upson (2) had Yeovil ahead early on with Taylor (4) soon equalising before a penalty from O’Flynn (30) meant that Exeter were ahead at half time. A goal early in the second half from Blizzard (56) secured Yeovil a point in a 2-2 draw.
