Richard Logan`s first half brace helped Exeter claim a narrow victory over high flying Carlisle and extend their unbeaten home record to six games.

Logan showed good composure with two assured finishes in four first half minutes. Substitute Matt Robson`s superb second half free-kick proved little more than a consolation for the visitors.

Following an opening of few chances Exeter cashed in on their first opportunity of note, Ryan Harley superbly cushioned a miss hit clearance from goal-keeper Adam Collin into the path of Logan who raced clear and finished neatly past the unfortunate keeper.

Four minutes later the Grecians doubled their advantage, James Dunne`s excellent tackle in midfield allowing team mate Liam Sercombe to release Logan again down the left flank who carried the ball into the heart of the Carlisle penalty area before jinking inside a challenge and confidently sweeping home his 4th league goal of the season.

Carlisle looked shell shocked as they failed to construct any attacks that threatened Paul Jones in the Exeter goal as The Grecians headed for the dressing room with a spring in their step and a two goal half time lead.

Carlisle`s new loan signing Mike Grella was introduced at the start of the second half as the visitors searched for the inspiration to give their 200 strong support who had made the long journey south something to cheer about.

The change seemed to have the desired effect as Carlisle spent long periods of the second half camped in the Exeter half.

Despite their possession The Cumbrians were failing to create any clear chances as the Exeter defence stood firm proudly protecting their unbeaten home record.

That was until twenty minutes from time when Robson`s superb 25 yard left-footed free-kick left Jones with no chance as the deficit was halved.

Logan had the chance to ease the nerves of the home support by completing his hat-trick, but from John O`flynn`s unselfish pass he shot tamely straight at Collin.

Exeter survived one major scare late on as Scott Golbourne was forced to clear off the line to save the blushes of Jones in goal.

But the Grecian`s held on for the victory which sees them climb to seventh in league 1, moving above Carlisle in the process.
