Exeter City are represented in the latest Football League team of the week that has been selected after this midweek’s action.

The performance by Liam McAlinden in the one nil victory over Leyton Orient on Tuesday at Brisbane Road was enough to earn them a place in the side alongside the other most impressive performers in the Football League pyramid.

I think we’ll already know ourselves, and not just based on the latest performance, why McAlinden was selected as part of the team but explaining the choice – the FL blurb read.

‘Exeter were propping up the EFL at the beginning of the evening, but a 1-0 win at Leyton Orient ensured their stay at the bottom was brief. The architect of Orient’s downfall was the lively McAlinden, who played a big part in Ollie Watkins’ goal, could have scored himself, and whose dangerous deliveries from out wide should have resulted in a more comfortable scoreline.’

It’s always good to see the club represented in this way, and well played to McAlinden for his recognition, but the most important thing about the match was of course the win.

Full Team:

Ben Alnwick (Bolton Wanderers), Bira Dembele (Barnet), Tom Eastman (Colchester United), Curtis Nelson (Oxford United), Ollie Turton (Crewe Alexandra), Adam Chicksen (Charlton Athletic), Michael Doyle (Portsmouth), Josh Cullen (Bradford City), Liam McAlinden (Exeter City), David Ball (Fleetwood Town), Steven Davies (Rochdale).

Manager – Danny Wilson (Chesterfield).
