Striker Alex Nicholls has praised the character of the team for coming back from a goal deficit against Mansfield Town at the weekend.

Speaking to the Official Site following the three two victory, the new signing said that the team ‘held out chests out and put our chins up’ when we fell behind, having taken the early lead, and playing with that belief we showed what we could do in a very difficult game against a very difficult opponent who were playing well and causing us plenty of problems.

‘It’s a credit to us to have fought back – after the way the last three results have gone, another team would have crumbled. But at 2-1 down, we’ve got strong characters in the dressing room and we held our chests out and put our chins up and went for it. Scotty got a good goal, I thought he was brilliant today after he came back into the team, and I was happy to get the winner at the end. We got that goal from being on the front foot.’

Nicholls says that given how the last few weeks have gone for us, fighting back from a goal behind, right towards the end of the game will be a big boost for everybody in the camp and help that belief and confidence again, especially with where we are now placed in the league despite recent hiccups, and he felt everybody benefited from that lift in the dressing room at full time, so now it’s about hoping we’ve turned the corner, but more importantly proving it in the next game.

Like manager Paul Tisdale, Nicholls also had praise for how well Mansfield did on the day given the season they’ve had so far, as the team were well aware of the pressure they put on us and the problems they caused in the process, admitting that at points with goal line clearances we did ride our luck, but it was about time we had some luck again ourselves.
