Yesterday Exeter City confirmed the death of their striker Adam Stansfield.

Superfit player Adam Stansfield was an energetic all action type of striker.

He started to complain of abdominal pains in March of this year and went for tests which found him to have bowel cancer.

Adam began his career at Devonshire side Elmore FC before moving on to Yeovil in 2001, making his debut for them at Southport in the Conference.

in 2006 he moved to Hereford on a free transfer where he stayed for two years.
From there he moved to Exeter for whom he played 160 first team appearances, scoring 39 goals. He was a popular member of the team and always gave his all for the cause.

Exeter City paid their respects through their website. After confirming Adam’s death they said, ‘Our thoughts are with the wife, family and friends at this time.’

The Vital Network would also like to offer their condolences to friends and family.

Exeter City have stated on their OS that the Big Bank Gates will be open for fans who wish to pay their respects from 9.30am this morning.

Vital Ipswich Editor here – I was shocked to hear about this after our game with you at St James Park on Tuesday night, I’d like to offer our condolences to Adam Stansfield’s family and to Exeter City as a whole. He seemed to have become something of a cult icon for any fans of Soccer Saturday thanks to Jeff Stelling’s “Lisa will be pleased” jokes every time he scored – which seemed to happen pretty frequently too. A very sad loss. RIP Adam Stansfield.
