Midfielder Liam Sercombe has said that he believes the fixtures have fallen perfectly for Exeter City this season, and now he knows it’s down to the players to make the most of it and ensure we have a much better season than we did last term.

Speaking to the Official Site Sercs explained that with the teams we face early on in the season he believes it’s the perfect opportunity for the players to put a marker down, and show the league and the fans, what they intend to hopefully achieve this campaign.

‘The first game against Portsmouth is a massive one, especially at home. We need to get the attendances up, and it’s in our own hands to go and perform and get the three points early on. Hopefully we can put on a show and make sure the fans keep coming. After that we’ve got Plymouth away, which should be another massive turnout. It’s in our hands to perform well in the first two league games and get a couple of good results. We want to show the fans that we are desperate to do well and that we mean business.’

Sercombe says that if we can do that and lay that marker down in the opening two fixtures, then the fans will have every excitement and reason to keep coming back and enjoying themselves week after week.

Of course last season, Sercombe scored in both the Portsmouth and Plymouth games in the corresponding matches last term, and he’ll be hoping he can repeat that on a personal level this time round as well.

Like a number of our first teamers, Sercombe has been away for a break but has returned early to really step up his fitness work ahead of the new campaign, and behalf of those players who have been in using the facilities, he passes his thanks on to the coaching staff for organising sessions during the week to help the players kick on again, because they are relishing the new league season.
