Exeter City are represented in the latest Football League team of the week that has been selected after this week’s action.

The performance by Ollie Watkins in the four nil victory over Leyton Orient on Monday at St James Park was enough to earn them a place in the side alongside the other most impressive performers in the Football League pyramid.

I think we’ll already know ourselves, and not just based on the latest performance, why Watkins was selected as part of the team but explaining the choice – the FL blurb read.

‘Watkins turned 21 on the 30th December, and celebrated in style with a hat-trick the very next day, putting Newport County to the sword. The forward also played his part on the Monday, when Exeter hit four again, this time against Leyton Orient.’

It’s always good to see the club represented in this way, and well played to Watkins for his recognition, but the most important thing about the weekend was of course the three points.

Full Team:

Jak Alnwick (Port Vale), Amari’i Bell (Fleetwood Town), Chey Dunkley (Oxford United), Christian Burgess (Portsmouth), Kieron Freeman (Sheffield United), Brennan Dickenson (Colchester United), Oliver Rathbone (Rochdale), Pawel Wszolek (Queens Park Rangers), Nelson Oliveira (Norwich City), Josh Magennis (Charlton Athletic), Ollie Watkins (Exeter City).

Manager – Gareth Ainsworth (Wycombe Wanderers).
