Exeter City’s England Under 21 striker Ollie Watkins took the Young Player of the Year award at Sunday’s EFL Awards ceremony in London.
Beating off competition from from fellow Under 21 international John Swift of Reading and Oxford United’s Ryan Ledson, 14 goal Watkins lifted the award in recognition of his progress and performances this year for Paul Tisdale’s side.
Speaking to the efl.com as he picked up his award, a delighted striker explained.
‘I am really pleased to have been recognised by the EFL. It has been my breakthrough year at Exeter and I appreciate the manager for believing in me.’
With Exeter having high hopes for Watkins, the fact that previous winners of the award include the likes of Gareth Bale and Dele Alli won’t be lost on people.
