Exeter City are represented in the latest Football League team of the week that has been selected after this week’s action.

The performance by David Wheeler in the four nil victory over Crewe Alexandra at the weekend at St James Park was enough to earn them a place in the side alongside the other most impressive performers in the Football League pyramid.

I think we’ll already know ourselves, and not just based on the latest performance, why Wheeler was selected as part of the team but explaining the choice – the FL blurb read.

‘It was a record-breaking weekend for Wheeler, who netted for the seventh straight game as Exeter defeated Crewe Alexandra. His first goal broke the long-standing club record, and he added another for good measure as the Grecians extended their unbeaten run to 12 games.’

It’s always good to see the club represented in this way, and well played to Wheeler for his recognition, but the most important thing about the weekend was of course the points.

Full Team:

James McKeown (Grimsby Town), Cheick Keita (Birmingham City), Jake Cooper (Millwall), Peter Clarke (Oldham Athletic), Michael Hefele (Huddersfield Town), Mitchell Dijks (Norwich City), David Vaughan (Nottingham Forest), John Fleck (Sheffield United), David Wheeler (Exeter City), Tom Lawrence (Ipswich Town), Matty Godden (Stevenage).

Manager – Phil Brown (Southend United).
