League one round-up – Exeter 3-1 Rochdale

League one round-up: 22nd October 2011

The latest weekend of the football league season has been and gone, the npower league one is rounded-up in this article.

Bournemouth 1-2 Bury
A lead was lost by Bournemouth as they slipped to a 2-1 home defeat against Bury.

Pugh (41) looked to have given the hosts a half time lead but on the stroke of the interval Coke (45) levelled for the visitors with Bishop (53) giving Bury the win with a goal early in the second half.

Charlton 4-0 Carlisle
Charlton recovered from a defeat last weekend with a comprehensive 4-0 win at The Valley against Carlisle.

A double from Kermorgant (13 & 37) was sandwiched either side of a Wright-Phillips (21) goal as The Addicks raced into a half time lead, with Carlisle’s job made even harder with Robson (45) sent off just before the break. Hollands (48) completed the scoring shortly after the break.

Chesterfield 2-3 Hartlepool
Home advantage, and an early lead, for Chesterfield eventually counted for nothing as they were beaten at home 3-2 by Hartlepool.

Clarke (10) gave Chesterfield an early lead but two goals in as many minutes from Murray (17) and Poole (19) meant Hartlepool head a 2-1 half time lead. Poole’s (48) second extended the visitors lead before Holden (52) gave the hosts hope, although hope was all it was as an equaliser could not be found.

Exeter 3-1 Rochdale
Coming from behind to win 3-1 meant Exeter picked up a crucial three points against Rochdale.

Eccleston (31) gave Rochdale the lead but a goal from Nardiello (45) on the stroke of half time brought Exeter level. Another from Nardiello (56), from the spot, early in the second half gave the hosts the lead with victory secured late on by Taylor (81).

Huddersfield 3-1 Preston
A hat-trick for the second successive game from Rhodes meant that Huddersfield secured a 3-1 home win over Preston.

Rhodes’ goals (4, 42 & 57) put the hosts in control with Preston’s consolation coming from Tsoumou (61) just after the hour.

Leyton Orient 1-1 Sheff Utd
With only 10-men and 1-0 down deep in injury-time most would have been forgiven for thinking that Leyton Orient would lose to Sheff United, although a last gasp goal meant a 1-1 draw.

Daniels’ (74) sending off meant that Orient had to play the final 10-minutes with just 10-men with the likelihood that they would lose this almost certain when Porter (84) gave Sheff United a late lead. Deep, deep into injury-time Lisbie (90+6) earned Orient a point.

MK Dons 0-0 Scunthorpe
The deadlock could not be broken at The stadium:mk with the points shared.

A point apiece is what MK Dons and Scunthorpe had to be content with after the 0-0 draw, which would have suited the visitors much more.

Notts County 1-1 Brentford
The points were shared between Notts County and Brentford after a 1-1 draw.

J Hughes (38) gave Notts County a half time lead when he converted from the spot but immediately after the break Donaldson (46) equalised for Brentford.

Oldham 2-0 Wycombe
Two second half goals were enough for Oldham to beat Wycombe.

Wesolowski (59), just before the hour, gave Oldham the lead with Furman (80) securing a 2-0 win in the final 10-minutes.

Sheff Wed 2-0 Colchester
Colchester were beaten 2-0 at Hillsborough by Sheffield Wednesday.

A goalless first half would have suited The U’s down to the ground but two goals in a little over 10-minutes from R Jones (59) and Johnson (70) were enough for the hosts to collect the points.

Stevenage 0-0 Yeovil
Stevenage and Yeovil played out a 0-0 draw.

Stevenage, if home advantage was not enough, were given even more of a chance to secure the points when Ayling (84) was sent off late on for Yeovil, although the deadlock could not be broken.

Tranmere 2-1 Walsall
Home advantage helped Tranmere to a 2-1 win over Walsall.

Tranmere were ahead just before the hour through Weir (59), although Walsall were level through Butler (73) less than 15-minutes later. Tyriaki (80) secured the points for the hosts minutes later.
