Manager Paul Tisdale has said that Exeter will have to be a their very best to overcome a strong Peterborough side away from home in the first round of the FA Cup.
Exeter have arguably been given one of the toughest draws of the opening round proper, and the manager admitted it was going to be very tough for the Grecians to progress against such talented opponents.
Peterborough are in good form in the domestic Cups this campaign, having already knocked out Colchester (5-1) and Reading (6-0) in the Capital One Cup, finding the net on eleven occasions and only conceding once, before losing two nil in the third round to Premiership Sunderland.
Their league form shouldn’t be sniffed at either as they are sitting in third place in League One, only three points behind league leaders Leyton Orient.
Speaking to the Express and Echo after the draw was made and we were pitted against The Posh, Tisdale explained of the November 9th fixture.
‘I’m not sure what to make of the draw to be honest. They are a very good side, who play good attacking football. We couldn’t have really got a tougher game, so if we are going to progress past the first round then we are going to have to do it the hard way.’
Tisdale continued to explain that first round exits in the FA Cup were beginning to grate on him, so he was hoping for a relatively easy tie (if there is such a thing given the nature of the cup) so he could put that right, but in some ways it’s a case of ‘here we go again’ when he saw us drawn against Peterborough.
It could turn out to be the perfect tie for us as he knows on our day we are capable of beating anybody, but the gaffer admits his preference was a lower league opponent at St James Park.
At the very least it would’ve been nice to entertain Peterborough with our home crowd behind us.
