Things didn’t get any easier for Exeter on Saturday afternoon as we were beaten one again.

Mansfield Town’s form had been better than ours but we knew a win could take is within touching distance of them, but it was they that went away from St James’ Park with a 2-1 win.

Rakish Bingham (14) had only joined Mansfield this week on transfer deadline day and he was left with a simple tap in after Fergus Bell’s initial effort had been saved by Exeter ‘keeper Christy Pym, who played despite being on England U20 duty just the day before.

With half time approaching the visitors lead was doubled, this time Bell (40) wasn’t denied as he unleashed an effort past Pym to make it two-nil to the Stags at the break.

A way back into the game was found in the second half with a fine freekick from Matt Grimes (67), who had also been on England duty, midway though the second half giving us some hope of a fightback.

That equaliser couldn’t be found though with this two-nil defeat seeing us slump to the foot off the football league.
